Privacy Policy

Who we are

Hey, Java-Nuts, it’s Koffeetie!
My website address is: https://www.koffeetie.com.

What personal data we collect and why we collect it

Summary

Privacy policies are notorious for being long, drawn out, confusing, and annoying to read.  Therefore, I have created this summary section.  If you need further details, please read below this section.

I very much respect your privacy, which is why I only ask for your first name.
Some automated forms may ask for your last name–please do not provide it.  If it’s a required field, simply reenter your first name or associate yourself with my family and enter ‘Javanut’ (which is way more fun!).

If requested, the YouTube Username is used for contests and giveaways. Though it is not required, you won’t be able to participate in any contests or giveaways without it, so I recommend providing it.

Because I genuinely care about your privacy and security, I have purchased an SSL Certificate to, among other things, keep you and your data secured.  Upon entering http://www.koffeetie.com, you should be automatically redirected to the SSL encrypted site.  The address bar should show https://koffeetie.com or https://www.koffeetie.com with a locked padlock.
If you do not see this, or are unsure, please click here to be redirected to the SSL version.  Don’t forget to change all of your bookmarks accordingly.
For more information on how SSL works to keep you safe (including a cute little video), visit the global distributors of SSL Certificates.

The only other entities that may have access to anything entered are:
Google – Some forms and my email are through them.  Let’s face it, they’re everywhere, like an umbrella…
The Hosting Server – They host this site.
Payment Collection Agencies – If you take advantage of our shop, they collect, secure, and control all payment data.
Please refer to their respective privacy policies to understand how they handle everything they access.

I will NEVER share, sell, or otherwise disclose any information you enter in any form, any email communication, or any other messaging system with any third party, including, but not limited to, marketing (unless required by law).

Comments

When visitors leave comments on the site we collect the data shown in the comments form, and also the visitor’s IP address and browser user agent string to help spam detection.

An anonymised string created from your email address (also called a hash) may be provided to the Gravatar service to see if you are using it. The Gravatar service privacy policy is available here: https://automattic.com/privacy/. After approval of your comment, your profile picture is visible to the public in the context of your comment.

Where’s my Avatar?

We use WordPress.  They use Gravatar.  I’ve reviewed Gravatar’s Privacy Policies and they are not up to Koffeetie’s.  Therefore, I have disabled them altogether.

Your privacy is extremely important to me!

Media

If you upload images to the website, you should avoid uploading images with embedded location data (EXIF GPS) included. Visitors to the website can download and extract any location data from images on the website.

Another Note on Comments and Media

Remember, nothing crude or rude will be accepted and, upon my discretion, I will delete any comment that does not strictly adhere to this and reserve the right to block the user and/or IP address.
Basically, keep it civil, like a coffee house.

Cookies

If you leave a comment on our site you may opt-in to saving your name, email address and website in cookies. These are for your convenience so that you do not have to fill in your details again when you leave another comment. These cookies will last for one year.

If you have an account and you log in to this site, we will set a temporary cookie to determine if your browser accepts cookies. This cookie contains no personal data and is discarded when you close your browser.

When you log in, we will also set up several cookies to save your login information and your screen display choices. Login cookies last for two days, and screen options cookies last for a year. If you select “Remember Me”, your login will persist for two weeks. If you log out of your account, the login cookies will be removed.

If you edit or publish an article, an additional cookie will be saved in your browser. This cookie includes no personal data and simply indicates the post ID of the article you just edited. It expires after 1 day.

Embedded content from other websites

Articles on this site may include embedded content (e.g. videos, images, articles, etc.). Embedded content from other websites behaves in the exact same way as if the visitor has visited the other website.

These websites may collect data about you, use cookies, embed additional third-party tracking, and monitor your interaction with that embedded content, including tracking your interaction with the embedded content if you have an account and are logged in to that website.

Analytics

I, currently, do not use any sort of monetization analytics.  The only analytics that I do use is user data (such as comments and names) and IP data, as provided by the Hosting Site.

How long we retain your data

If you leave a comment, the comment and its metadata are retained indefinitely. This is so we can recognise and approve any follow-up comments automatically instead of holding them in a moderation queue.

All users can see, edit, or delete their personal information at any time (except they cannot change their username). Website administrators can also see and edit that information.
